Rail and public-transport connections

Rail and public-transport connections

To reach Newark Liberty by rail, transfer to an airport-bound NJ TRANSIT train and then take AirTrain Newark from the airport rail station to your terminal.

NJ TRANSIT’s routing for passengers on the Main-Bergen line calls for a transfer at Secaucus Junction to a southbound Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line train.

Those lines serve Newark Liberty International Airport Rail Station, where passengers transfer to AirTrain for Terminals A, B and C. You can find station details in this Ramsey Station guide to trains, parking and connections.

NJ TRANSIT buses also serve the airport. Routes 28, 37, 62, 67 and 107 connect the airport with areas that include Bloomfield, Maplewood, Irvington, Elizabeth and Newark. Go Bus 28 links Bloomfield and downtown Newark with the airport, serving Terminals A, B and C in the central terminal area.

The airport rail station has no direct bus service to or from the station, and there is no parking or pickup and drop-off location there. NJ TRANSIT describes it as accessible, with bike racks or lockers; it has no ticket agents and lists 10 ticket vending machines.

For an arriving passenger, wait in the free Cell Phone Lot unless the passenger and bags are already at the terminal curb. Drivers may not wait at the curb while the passenger is still inside the airport.

The Cell Phone Lot has more than 100 spaces and is less than five minutes from all terminals. It is near the airport entrance, beside the P4 Daily Parking garage. Once your passenger calls, proceed to the terminal for pickup.

If you are departing, you can unload passengers and bags at the curb outside the terminal. If you need help with bags or reaching the gate, the airport advises contacting the airline at least 24 hours ahead.

Choosing a departure-time buffer

Build your plan around the full trip to the terminal, not just the drive or train ride. By rail, include the transfer at Secaucus Junction where applicable and the AirTrain connection from the airport station.

If your itinerary uses LaGuardia instead, the drive from Ramsey Inn & Suites is about 45 minutes; the guide to getting from Ramsey to LaGuardia Airport covers that route.
